Scale Statement
Definition

A scale statement appears in a scale drawing and states the ratio of a length in the drawing to an equivalent length in the real world.

Example

In the scale drawing of the Eiffel Tower below, the "scale statement" in the drawing is "Scale: 1 cm : 36 m".

Since the height of the drawing of the Eiffel Tower is 9 cm, the scale statement can be used to calculate the actual height of the Eiffel Tower.

Note that your computer monitor may not actually display the Eiffel Tower scale drawing as being 9 cm tall.
